and the story goes like this: skipson (also known as knarf skipson in the past) was recording the >ks editspot pt.1<, which is based on samples from a rob mello track. as skipson is a nice fella, he sent the final version to rob. and as rob is a nice fella too, he liked it, sent one of his tracks back and this project was born. thats the easy way of sample clearing! this 10inch is about house music, as simple as that! groovy beats and fat basslines, rough and ready. limited to 500 copies - enjoy!

praterei are back with their third instalment, again one for the heads and the hips alike. as per, pseudonyms are the order of the day and 7 citizens returns with more chicago synthestry in the form of >quietus<. the remix comes from force/emerge and proffers a gritty low slung alternative. as for the conundrums, 7 citizens has recently collaborated on one side of a huge double 12 inch release with one of the most in demand producers on the scene. and force/emerge...is copper mayfield too obvious? check!

never losing the musics immediate physicalness out of sight, the driving, bass-heavy energy of alex picones tracks set club floors on fire. still in his twenties, hes been a dj for fifteen years. having never aimed at quick fame, his career is exemplary in its endurance and commitment: he hosted parties in his hometown of padua and became resident at seminal italian clubs. after a stopover on ibiza he now resides in berlin. alex picones first record under his real name is also his first release on cadenza and his most successful so far. the three tracks of fahrenheit tie in with the overboiling force of floppy and furby. while the rattling snaredrum adds a humorous touch, the uplifting groove of inside out pushes on the limits of the energy levels of contemporary house music. yet the heart of the track is the relentless bassline, which liquefy ones body and melds the crowd and the whole club in one torrential stream of tension. with lost in burning man, alex picone fuses an oldschool electro groove in his house beats. this unexpected encounter might remind one of kevin saundersons hiphouse sound. but instead of indulging in nostalgia, the breakbeats add a provoking, startling touch to the track. with the rotary bassline and the playful jaws harp of mandarin, the ep ends on a comical note. alex picones second cadenza is a challenge to a certain house sound that became too accommodating and glossy. his musics driving force pushes the crowd beyond the threshold of the established into a space of limitless indulgence

fried tofu exists to bring some soulful sounds back into the mix. they have a militant approach to their output, selecting only the finest source material, and sympathetically reducing the ingredients to their raw, dancefloor friendly essence celebrating the often superior production of the 70s and 80s and avoiding the loudness wars which has seen club music recently distilled into an overcompressed and lifeless mass. far too many words have been wasted in the average release info sheet. so lets keep it short and let the music speak for itself.

a full length lp by ruins, an italian electro-wave duo. ruins formed in mestre in 1978 with the intention of experimenting with electronic devices and mixed media. they mainly created music out of self-expression without any intention of joining the mainstream. interested in multimedia, they had a strong visual aesthetic apparent via their album art, videos and projections. its where italo meets minimal wave. the -fire- videos are a must-see in order to grasp the full effect of the song, check out the first version here and rare second version here. the lp entitled -the art dance- features a collection of songs recorded between 1980-1984, some previously released, others never released before pressed on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a lovely hand-numbered glossy gatefold jacket lined with the bands history and photos, and accompanied by a lyrics insert sheet. tip!

there are few artists making seriously great music while not taking themselves too seriously: that difficult feat is one rarely attempted and even less often successfully carried out. benoit & sergio have seemingly effortlessly managed to pull off that contradictory trick, producing songs that sometimes seem like musical open letters: editorials narrated in the voices of unidentified, yet totally recognizable colorful characters, read aloud against a backdrop of beautifully lush, warm and sensuous electronic pop music. the unexpected juxtaposition of such pristine production and playful lyricism — first exhibited on 2009s highly praised <i>what ive lost</i> ep, which included the brilliantly sardonic single >full grown man< – exemplifies why benoit & sergio are one of the most unique and interesting outfits in dance music. its good news, then, that the washington, d.c./berlin-based outfits eagerly expected dfa debut maintains both the charm and expert craftsmanship of its predecessors. single >boy trouble< (the titular counterpoint to >full grown man<) launches the ep with all manner of reasons to take to the dancefloor: an exigent beat, a beckoning synthline, a bassline of understated funk. sergio lethargically sings about girls, making note of both their ups and the downsides, without the hindrance of subtlety. >i love girls/with legs like a ferrari< he states before noting (bemoaning?) the fact that >you need poetry to turn these girls on.< its a song for the best part of the night, full of compulsive rhythms and a climax that builds on sparkly synths. the accompanying remix from visionquest — the detroit-bred, berlin-based label led by producers seth troxler, ryan crosson, lee curtiss and shaun reeves — amps things up, making the beat a more prominent, driving and club banging force. the flipside features >full grown man< and >what ive lost<, which reveal themselves to be worth more than a few revisits.

repress !! blackest ever black is a new london-based label that seeks to re-establish electronic music as a poetic, provocative and emotionally inquisitive force. music by artists, not engineers. its first release is a self-titled ep by raime, a british duo who draw explicit inspiration from the marginal mavericks of early european goth, industrial and synth wave - artists largely omitted from the current master narrative of post-punk history, and who strove to make music at once cerebral and visceral, futuristic and atavistic. well-versed in the language of club music, but rejecting its typically rigid sequencing and arrangements, raime use technology pensively - to convey a sense of crisis, collapse and longing. transporting and disorienting though their work might be, its narratively taut and has no truck whatsoever with the cosmic, its too aggressive and engaged to be called psychedelic.

aaah lovely dovely, its that time of year again, the city is covered in snow, chestnuts are a roastin and wee little elves are working away busily pressing the annual home sweet home compilation for your listening and dancing pleasure. yep, its nearly that time of year again, the famed hsh new years rave at the arena/treptow in berlin is just around ye corner. yay! this year we have invited some dj and producer friends from berlin that are playing at the party to contribute to the compilation too! the lovely frenchmen shonky who has played at a few of our shindigs since moving to berlin and is known for his funky techno style has even named his track on a1 >madame moustache<, how very sweet ! snapping at his heels on b2 is our good friend from way up north (maybe he knows santa) and also a berlin resident agaric with his kicking track >after it all< which we are very pleased about. the flipside features some of our homies jens bond and tigerskin with a furious track on b1 followed by nico stojan our little bar 25 flirt with a nice melodic house track on a2 to round things off nicely.

i dont think i know, or heard of, anyone who share the same obsession in searching obscure disco records like kool dj dust (real name daniel savio). call him at any given time and he is in some flee market or second hand shop on the look-out for records. he even got an apartment just for his collection.
we talked about the idea of re-releasing >un-googable< music, old stuff that is not only very hard to find, but also so good that re-issueing it is an actual cultural necessity. dust tossed around with a few ideas and finally these three songs made the cut. we are very happy with them!
we hope you are too. we are also happy that we have the support on this release from so many djs. some of them being rune lindbaek, in flagranti, tim sweeney, horse meat disco, 6th borough project, parlour, dj rocca, bonar bradberry, parlour, hugo capablanca, cousin cole et al.

simoncino (aka nick anthony) from italian super edit label no more hits crosses the atlantic and finds a new home with on the prowls sub-label party breaks. what immediately stands out upon first listen is the production style, not being able to tell what is a sample and what has been replayed… much like tensnakes mega hit. the simoncino sound is firmly rooted in proto-house and 80s r&b. with ingredients like ancient drum machines, arpeggiated melodies, and cheap 80s pads, his concoction boils over with a certain cheekiness that makes listeners grin from ear to ear. all four tracks are subtle hits in their own right. excellent ep!

massive one from numbers that really does shows the connections between early 90s detroit and chicago and the current bass heavy house sounds coming out of london. getting plays from a diverse amount of djs too with kode9, shake, boys noize and minimal house guy luciano giving it props.

mitzi are a 4 piece of awesomeness made up of dominiqe bird, jad lee, charlie murdoch and cale suesskow. they all hail from australias most laidback and sunny city brisbane. some people call it brisvegas because its sexy too. after playing in various killer bands such as bmx (2009 unearthed parklife winners), comic sans (2010 unearthed st jeromes laneway festival winners), charlie why! (recent bang gang 12 inches signing) and the gallery kiss all the dudes have united to create some genuinely exciting australian music. the three tunes on >all i heard< fuse the sounds of garage disco, nyc indie and the light heartedness of australian pop. jono ma (lost valentinos, tracy thorn, teenagers in tokyo) mixed the record at ewan pearsons studio in berlin and made all those trumpets, snares, keys, whispers and vocals sound ridiculously tight. future classics history has always been rooted in bands and were pretty stocked to be getting back into it. plus its our 50th release!

now a full time member of australian super group empire of the sun and 1/3 of the genius of the swiss we honestly dont know how sid found the time to make this heated late night gem. all we do know is arthur russell was integral in his life when he turned it out. echoed moans and whispers, chunky bass line, percussion, arrangement and everything else involved in this 8 minute and 22 second burner are all by the shirtless gentleman of the night you now know as sidwho? session victim is matthias reiling and hauke freer, their house and techno adventures on delusions of grandeur and retreat records have been rinsed out many a time at our future classic parties and all around the world so we knew it was time to get a remix. some guys and gals might think this is too deep or minimal, you just need a bigger sound system!

claremont 56 seem to have a passion for the unnoticed and the unreleased, digging out gems from the past or oldies from the future. here we have four hands, a band from newcastle who laid this gem down in 1999. sounding distinctly like an adriatic sunset from 20 years previous. from subtle beginnings this track doesnt quite grow, it just drifts beautifully along, from warm pads to a deeper swelling bass, overlaid with delicate strings and languid orchestral touches. four hands deliver a modern day masterpiece, with a timeless woozy morning feeling. this is the warm embrace you need after a few too many the night before. limited edition!
